Larkin Business Association (LBA) is collecting nonperishable food items to donate to the North Midland Family Center Food Pantry, part of the Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network.
The LBA is collecting food items to help support our community and those in need. Often food drives only occur during the holidays, when the need is year round. The business owners of the Larkin Business Association want to help the local community by hosting drop off locations in their businesses to make it easy for the public to donate to the food pantry.
“Our goal with the food drive is to make it easy for area residents to donate goods. Often people have intentions to get to the food pantry to drop off items and with hectic schedules do not make it. Hosting drop off locations at area businesses will allow people to easily make a donation.” Said Amanda King, manager of Larkin Food Center a business participating in the drive. Many items are needed at the pantry not necessarily food. “This drive is a great way to do some spring cleaning. A wonderful donation would be all those sample toothbrushes you get when visiting the dentist. If they are just lying in the drawer, donate them with a box of cereal which could really help someone in the community.” Said King.
The food pantry is looking for canned meats such as tuna fish or canned chicken, peanut butter, canned veggies, jellies, canned fruits, and personal care items such as soap, tooth paste, shampoo and deodorant.
To donate stop by one of the participating businesses during the month of May and drop off your items. You do not have to be a resident of Larkin Township to participate; the drive is open to anyone in the community. “Anyone is welcome to participate, we are looking to help stock the food pantry by making the locations convenient”, said Jeremy Stanford, President of Stanford LP Gas. “We hope people can help us share the event through Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/LarkinBusinessAssociation) and spread the word about this great event.” Continued Stanford. “This food drive will help people in our community and we are excited to get the word out.”
